does microsoft know what it is doing as it is offering to pay for news?
i haven't much cared about the whole search engine / news fights. in a way it was inevitable that the news/media industry would get desperate to find new ways to make money and search engines were a good target. now that it looks like microsoft is seeing this as a way to compete with google (by paying for news content to be searched in bing) i am wondering if redmond knows what it is doing? now i am not so much worried about news since i rarely use search engines to find news. general news or media stories are a bit different. but what companies will want to follow suit? photos, videos, music ... bloggers. at one point search engines might have to pay for any content that they search through and once that happens they will look back at 2009 and the decisions that were made, mostly up in redmond.
